WebAssembly native app performance on the Web

I just came across this article today. Apparently Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla have all decided to jointly create some kind of hybrid between Google’s Native Client (NaCl) and asm.js. Is this going to be the feature that allows web apps to kill off native apps? If this does take off, will JavaScript still have a future as the language of the Web?

At first glance I’m a bit skeptical. If NaCl and asm.js haven’t caught on yet, what makes WebAssembly any different? On the other hand all the major browser vendors seem to be lined up behind it.

Sounds a bit…salty.

Looking at the docs and FAQ ultimate goal is compile your (native) app for web. And yes JS will still have future (bright and short I hope).
