So I was poking around in Badges, and saw a couple new ones: Certified and Licensed. Wha?
Addict to gamification that I am, I poked around and found out that Discourse now has a bot named @discobot (I’ll withhold judgement on the name) who can run some tutorials, as well as perform a few parlor tricks.
So, if you too are seeking mechanical attaboys…
… send @discobot a message like @discobot start new user
On the other hand, if you don’t care for badges…
… you could play Farkle…
@discobot roll 6d6
… roll the old 8-ball …
@discobot fortune
… search for random wisdom …
@discobot quote
… or try to find some Easter eggs in this bot, who is, apparently, listening in on all of our conversations
Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help
.
I currently know how to do the following things:
@discobot start new user
Starts one of the following interactive narratives: new user, advanced user.
@discobot roll 2d6
3, 6
@discobot quote
Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you — Princess Diana
@discobot fortune
You may rely on it
I’m sorry, it is mathematically impossible to roll that combination of dice.

I can see some interesting uses for @discobot, such as automatically detecting aggressive behavior, but I am curious what else they are thinking it will be used for. I think right now upstream Discourse are using it more for on-boarding.
I wonder if there are some fun use cases for @discobot here. Thoughts/ideas?
