3x70: Swallowed up in Crimethink

Stuart Langridge, Jono Bacon, and Jeremy Garcia present Bad Voltage, in which encryption backdoors rear their ugly heads (party like it’s 1999!), Minority Report is not a manual, and:

In the pantheon of eyeroll inducing arguments that have been had on this podcast, this one might take the cake. The entire argument was based on a provably false premise. You know there’s easily available data on crime rates, at least in developed nations, right? They’ve been consistently falling since the 70s. The claim that increased communication correlates to increased criminality, therefore governments (and by extension, corporations) need backdoors into encryption is laughably false.

Also, if you spot me that this forum is representative of all society, the amount of communication online is clearly trending toward zero.
