The interesting detail about the Elon Musk story is that, if he had any principles beyond trolling, he’d have a legitimate point worth supporting, because this is just a mild exaggeration of a problem that a lot of people face when their local government imposes a definition of a “name” that excludes other cultures. California is one of the most egregious, here, in banning diacritical marks, accents, ideograms, or anything a clerk finds obscene or derogatory.

So, there’s a place for a billionaire who wants to name their kid 長📯핕Rm🙃嫇ܭL🉇🧮3 or whatever and fight to force the state to join the twenty-first century, but Elon Musk is more of a “call a diver a pedophile for not letting him invent a minisub” billionaire than a “fight for social justice” billionaire…
