In light of the recent news that Facebook is testing a system to vet news stories for its veracity and to block fake news stories from receiving ad revenue, I wondered if the issue of fake news was worthy of discussion by the Bad Voltage community.
To what extent are tech giants like Facebook, Twitter, Google et.al responsible for the fake news mess and what responsibility do they have, if any, to address the problem? Is it a problem at all, or is this just the free market sorting itself out? Assuming it is a problem and tech giants do have a responsibility, what is in their power to do about it?
